It is natural to assume that when we get older, we will become more frail and less likely to take care of ourselves. This doesn’t always have to be so thanks to new technologies and products available to the elderly. Indeed, you can prolong having outside help for quite some time.

One example of a product that one of any age can enjoy is the mealtime protector. This device is much like an apron, and is specially designed to repel food and be easily washed. A mealtime protector is great when consuming things like wine or spaghetti sauce, which would otherwise make tricky stains that would take several attempts at washing. This can save both time and money.

The elderly also appreciate disposable washcloths, which have a plethora of uses all on their own. Disposable washcloths are only meant to be used once, and are typically made of a cotton-base that is quite absorbent. From using them to clean up spills in the kitchen to using them as a better solution to the handkerchief, disposable washcloths are quite handy. Do keep in mind these products are not able to be washed.

Not having full control of your bladder is typical for an elderly person. Most of the time the elderly person will already have what he or she needs to treat the problem, but a washable under pad is a great idea if it isn’t already owned. A washable under pad will be able to keep stains away from the mattress, and is also easily washed to be used again.

Protective underwear is also a great solution for those who aren’t keen on wearing diapers. Protective underwear can make the most of a bad situation by allowing for waterproof materials to trap accidental messes for easy cleaning. Best yet, protective underwear looks and feels like real underwear- meaning hiding them from the view of others isn’t necessary. In addition, such products are often inexpensive.

Last but not least, we have the item that can make enjoyable experiences less stressing: the smoker’s apron. In using an apron for smoking, one can save their clothing from burns from a cigarette or cigar that has been handled improperly. These items are easily washed, protect the chest and lap both, and look great. This product is even good for younger adults who don’t want to smell and look like the just had a smoking session.

Final Thoughts

You may not always need the help of others when trying to lead your life. In some instances, it will be necessary This all depends on how you are able to stay mobile, clean, and ultimately take care of yourself. If you think you may need help in doing so, you should instead seek out your options in going into a nursing home or stay with a family member.
