Finding What Causes the Ringing in Your Ears
Tinnitus, more commonly known as “ringing in your ears” is not only annoying, but can be a sign of other health problems. Like most people with ringing in ears, I assumed it was a result of years of loud music or being around other loud noises. While those are definitely causes of ringing in your ears, what most people don’t know is a leading cause of tinnitus is simply stress.
The most common type of tinnitus is called subjective tinnitus. This is where the ringing in your ears is only audible to you. Subjective tinnitus affects tens of millions of people each year. The other type, objective tinnitus, is where your doctor can hear the ringing in your ears using medical equipment. Objective tinnitus can be the sign of more serious problems, however, its occurrence is rare.
Interestingly, high stress levels, commonly linked with high blood pressure, is a common cause of ringing in ears. High blood pressure is a direct result if increased stress levels. Elevated blood pressure cause by stress cause blood flow to become more difficult and stressed, thus leading to the ringing noise in your ears. Reducing your blood pressure and stress levels will help prevent and stop tinnitus.
Changing your diet choices to more healthy foods, promoting weight loss, and exercising more will reduce your blood pressure and stress levels. Evaluate your current diet and exercise habits and make some conscious changes in order to reduce your stress level and take a major step to reducing tinnitus.
If you are a smoker, cut back or even better yet quit smoking. Smoking is known to cause high blood pressure and bodily stress, let alone all the other health risks involved. Putting down cigarettes will not alone provide you with greater long term health, it will also reduce your blood pressure and stress levels, and help prevent and stop that ringing in your ears.
While some of the most common causes of tinnitus and ringing in ears will always be loud music and noise, keep in mind it is possible your tinnitus is caused by high blood pressure and stress levels. Evaluating your current lifestyle and conditions can help identify changes that can be made easily to cure tinnitus and ringing in ears.
